Despite West Bromwich Albion heading towards the end of the regular season in the play-off berths, the club controversially decided to dismiss Darren Moore and they subsequently had to settle for another season in the Championship following a two-legged play-off semi-final defeat to local rivals Aston Villa. The big question was who would take the reins ahead of the 2019/20 campaign and that has now been answered with the club announcing the appointment of former West Ham manager Slaven Bilic on a two-year contract.
Bilic said to the club’s official website: “I’m delighted with this opportunity of course.
“We want to improve, we want to improve on the pitch and Albion have convinced me they want to return to the Premier League. Albion have a short-term project and a long project and they do not clash. They wanted me to lead them, to help improve them. They made it clear they wanted me to be the one to lead them in this and I didn’t think twice once they had spoken to me.”

West Brom are one of the favourites to win the Championship title next term with William Hill Bookmakers going 10/1 that they finish the season in pole position, only Leeds United (9/2) and Fulham (8/1) ahead of them in the betting market. Things look somewhat more promising when it comes to promotion with the same bookmaker going 5/2 that they lift themselves back into the Premier League, Fulham and Leeds United available at the same odds.
