Home advantage

West Ham United’s return from the lockdown hasn’t been a happy one. The East London outfit did manage an impressive 3-2 win over city rivals Chelsea earlier this month but this followed back-to-back 2-0 defeats to Wolverhampton Wanderers and Tottenham Hotspur. They did earn themselves a point at the weekend courtesy of a 2-2 draw with Newcastle United at St James’ Park and they will be confident of making home advantage count when they entertain Burnley this evening.

Pulling out the stops

The Hammers have hauled themselves clear of the relegation zone thanks in no small part to the win over Chelsea, however there is absolutely no room for complacency with just four points separating them from the bottom three in the table. Much work still needs to be done and manager David Moyes will be pulling out all the stops to ensure that his side don’t start sliding back down the table over the next few weeks.

European berth

Tonight’s opponents Burnley are in a much more secure position, Sean Dyche’s men having improved considerably as the season has progressed and now sitting comfortably in tenth position. A European berth isn’t beyond their means, however the likelihood is that they will finish the season in mid-table.

Unbeaten run

The Clarets returned from the enforced break with a demoralising 5-0 thrashing at Manchester City, however since then they have pulled themselves together and head into tonight’s match on the back of a three-game unbeaten run, 1-0 wins over Watford and Crystal Palace being followed by a 1-1 draw with Sheffield United.

Spoils shared

Neither one of these two sides have been enjoying a wealth of goals in recent outings and it’s fair to say that there won’t be fireworks at the London Stadium tonight, however we envisage both sides finding the back of the net in what has the makings of a low-scoring affair and given recent form, we’ll be siding with the spoils being shared in the east end this evening.
