West Ham United are having a bit of an identity crisis right now, the east London side unsure as to whether they are a ‘best of the rest’ or a ‘lower-end of the table’ side. Their last Premier League outing ended in a hugely disappointing 2-2 draw at home to a Brighton & Hove Albion outfit which were there for the taking and a subsequent 2-0 FA Cup win over Championship side Birmingham City was hardly a result to set pulses racing. The Hammers are sitting in the middle of the league table with eight wins and nine defeats from their 21 league outings and this inconsistency is keeping them out of the running for ‘best of the rest’ tag. In contrast, weekend opponents Arsenal have returned back to form with a 4-1 victory over Fulham – thus ending a two-game winless run – and they will be eager to keep winning matches in order to keep at bay a Manchester United side which sit just three points behind them in sixth position. We fancy the Gunners’ chances of making it two Premier League wins on the bounce when they travel to east London at lunchtime on Saturday, the bookmakers giving away free bets on West Ham United v Arsenal.
West Ham don’t boast the best record in front of their home fans this season with just four wins from their eleven outings at the London Stadium, however the visiting Gunners have been far from prolific on their travels with four wins from ten away games and three defeats during this time. Nevertheless two of those defeats came against title hopefuls Liverpool and Manchester City, these two teams red-hot on home soil. West Ham will certainly prove an easier kettle-of-fish to deal with this weekend and while the Hammers have already beaten Man United and held Chelsea to a share of the spoils, they have lost to the other four sides in the top-six with defeats to Manchester City (4-0), Spurs (1-0), Arsenal (3-1) and Liverpool (4-0). We envisage more of the same coming West Ham’s way this weekend and as such we’ll be siding with the visiting Gunners to grab themselves all three points and keep themselves above the Red Devils for another week, William Hill Bookmakers going Evens on Arsenal to win.
