Having failed to pick up more than a single point in their first four games following their return from the lockdown, Watford were in desperate need of a win heading into their clash with relegation-bound Norwich City on Tuesday evening. Thankfully for Nigel Pearson’s men, they fought their way back from an early Norwich goal to ultimately secure all three points in a 2-1 win. This was a massive boost in their bid to escape the drop although given that they sit just three points above the danger zone, there is clearly much work still to do.
Room to Spare
The Hornets have another chance to get some points on the board on Saturday afternoon when they entertain Newcastle United at Vicarage Road. The Magpies have already secured their Premier League status for next season with plenty of room to spare and as such, the home side are more in need of the three points.
Newcastle will still be reeling from their 5-0 hammering at the hands of Manchester City on Wednesday evening, however that dismal result came on the back of a six-game unbeaten run in the Premier League, a run which included convincing wins over Bournemouth (1-4) and Sheffield United (3-0) since the break. Nevertheless Watford have managed some impressive performances at this venue – not least their 3-0 thumping of champions Liverpool back in February – and they will surely be the more motivated of the two sides on Saturday afternoon.
The Magpies have been having few problems finding the back of the net on their travels, however we envisage the Hornets outgunning them on this occasion and further bolstering their chances of escaping the drop.
