Punters are backing Watford, Brighton and Cardiff City for the drop at the end of 2018/19 and the Seagull’s odds on relegation will drop should they suffer an opening-day defeat at the hands of Watford on Saturday afternoon.
There have been a few new arrivals at Brighton although there is little to get excited about amongst these with most of the thirteen new faces destined for the development squads or set to be punted out on loan. The exceptions may be winger Alireza Jahanbakhsh – who put in some excellent performances in the Dutch top-flight last season and finished top-scorer – and striker Florin Andone, however whether this duo can cut-it in the Premier League remains to be seen.
Chris Hughton’s men failed to impress in their pre-season campaign with just one win from five outings and no clean sheets to their name. As such, we don’t believe that they will keep the Hornets at bay at Vicarage Road this weekend, the bookmakers giving away free bets on Watford v Brighton.
Watford waved goodbye to winger Richardson who left for Everton on deadline day and there have been no new arrivals of note at Vicarage Road, however the Hornets did at least enjoy a solid pre-season campaign and they have started the past few seasons in strong fashion. As such, now is the time to back Watford and while there remains a strong possibility that they will drop like the proverbial stone after Christmas (as has been the norm in recent seasons), we’ll be siding with the Hornets to kick-off the 2018/19 campaign with victory, Ladbrokes Bookmakers going 27/20 on Watford to win.
