Slipping

The odds on Donald Trump winning the 2020 US Presidential Elections have lengthened to as much as 13/8, the longest that they have been since March 2019. The odds on the incumbent president remaining in the hot-seat have been falling steadily since early April while those of his competitor Joe Biden have been moving in the opposite direction.

Indeed Biden leapfrogged Trump in the betting markets on June 2nd and the former is now firm odds-on favourite to become the next President of the United States, most firms going a general 4/6, thus implying a perceived 60% chance that he will take the reins from Trump.

Seismic Shift

This seismic shift in the betting comes as a partial result of Trump’s handling of the Covid-19 pandemic, many voters believing that he hasn’t handled the situation well. On the day before the first Covid-19 case was conformed in the American capital on 20th January, Trump was a general 4/7 to win the upcoming election, however support for Biden has increased since then and the Donald Trump odds have continued to drift, making his chances of re-election ever more remote.

There is even worse news for Trump supporters on the Betfair Exchange with odds of 2/1 giving the serving President a perceived 33% chance of winning the election.
