Rotherham United dropped out of the Championship in spectacular fashion at the end of last season with a meagre points total of just 23 and a mere five wins throughout the entire campaign. Clearly they have found the going more comfortable at the lower level and they look extremely well placed to grab themselves a play-off place at the end of 2017/18 with the Millers currently sitting fourth in the League One table. Paul Warne’s men have hit a bit of a sticky patch of late however and following an excellent fourteen-game unbeaten run during which they won eleven outings, they have lost two of their last three matches with defeats to Rochdale (0-1) and MK Dons (3-2). They hammered Northampton Town to the tune of 3-0 at Sixfields last weekend however and the indications are that they will edge their way past Southend with BetVictor Bookies going 11/8 on a Rotherham win.
The bookmakers go best odds of 11/8 on Rotherham, 21/10 on Southend and 23/10 on the draw, however the leading bookies are offering some enticing free bets on this match.
Southend look resigned to finishing the season in a mid-table position, the Shrimpers sitting 15th in League One as things stand. They have no realistic chance of reaching the play-off places given their inconsistencies this term and they are effectively safe from the spectre of relegation. Theirs has been very much a mixed bag of results this season although they have failed to win any of their last four outings. Indeed Southend have only managed to find the back of the net once during this time and we don’t expect them to contribute to the scoreline in what has all the makings of a Rotherham United victory at Roots Hall on Saturday afternoon.
