Following a disappointing start to the season, it was no huge surprise when Southampton dispensed with the services of manager Mark Hughes earlier this week and the club wasted little time in appointing former RB Leipzig boss Ralph Hasenhuttl as his successor.
The Saints are sitting in the lower reaches of the Premier League table as things stand with just a single win to their name after fifteen league outings and a measly thirteen goals scored since the start of the season. Clearly their inability find the back of the net is hurting their chances of survival in the Premier League although they can take a modicum of comfort from the fact they are just a single point behind Huddersfield Town in what is a tight bottom-half of the league table.
Southampton find themselves as low as 2/5 with William Hill Bookmakers to remain in the Premier League at the end of the season, an interesting price given that the Saints have been clearly struggling at times this season. Indeed the fact that Southampton are odds-on to remain in the top-flight won’t do much to instil confidence in the supporters and we would imagine that this price will drift considerably should Hasenhuttl fail to make an immediate impact following his arrival at St Mary’s.
