Manchester United’s top-four ambitions were dealt a blow when they lost 2-0 to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium last time out, this being only their second defeat under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer across all competitions. Indeed this disappointing result means that the Red Devils sit two points adrift of the Champions League berths although their surprise fightback against PSG in the last-sixteen round of the latter competition means that they still have two potential avenues along which they could make it into Europe’s premier club tournament next season.
The weekend defeat to the Gunners doesn’t appear to have dented Solskjaer’s chances of being handed the managerial position on a permanent basis and the bookmakers remain optimistic that this will be the case, Paddy Power going 1/10 that the Norwegian will be in charge at Old Trafford on the opening day of next season, well ahead of closest rival Mauricio Pochettino with the Spurs boss way out at 9/1 with the same firm.

There can be little doubt that Solskjaer has had a hugely positive influence on results since his arrival earlier this season and this is clearly something which will hold him in good stead when the club board decide on who will lead the team forward into the new campaign.
Former Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane remains a contender for the position at odds of 16/1 although many believe that the deal is effectively done and that Solskjaer will be sitting in the dugout for the first game of 2019/20.
