Puff of smoke

Sheffield United’s bid for a European berth has evaporated in a puff of smoke in recent weeks, the Blades slipping down the Premier League table on the back of some hugely disappointing results. Chris Wilder’s men returned from the lockdown with a goal-less draw with struggling Aston Villa and demoralising back-to-back 3-0 defeats at Newcastle United and Manchester United. They did brush aside Tottenham Hotspur to the tune of 3-1 in their last home game earlier this month but a point was all they could manage at Turf Moor on Sunday afternoon, a result which leaves them sitting in ninth position in the league table.

European berth

The Blades sit four points adrift of the top six in the Premier League table and as such, they aren’t completely out of European contention. Their home form is solid with three wins and a draw from their last four league games at Bramall Lane and the motivation will certainly be there tonight. A win over Wolverhampton Wanderers could lift them to within a single point of the top six in the table and as such, we expect the home side to give a decent performance this evening. The question is, will it be enough?

No pushover

Wolverhampton Wanderers sit sixth in the Premier League table as things stand and they have generally impressed since their return from the break, wins coming against West Ham United (0-2), AFC Bournemouth (1-0) and Aston Villa (0-1). They lost 2-0 at home to an in-form Arsenal on Saturday afternoon, however on the whole Nuno Esprito Santo’s men have been looking good in recent weeks and they won’t be a pushover tonight.

Outgun

This looks set to be a very evenly-fought affair. Both sides are in search of a European berth, however Wolves have generally enjoyed more convincing form in recent weeks and for that reason alone we’ll be siding with them to outgun the Blades in what has the makings of a thoroughly entertaining affair at Bramall Lane tonight.
