This is a huge game for Sheffield United given that they could find themselves in the automatic promotion places should things go their way and Norwich City drop points in their trip to West Bromwich Albion. The Blades have already been in pole position this season and while they have hit a few stumbling blocks along the way, they remain very much in contention for a top-two finish to the season. Chris Wilder’s men head into their weekend meeting with QPR on the back of three consecutive league wins and should they collect a maximum points haul this weekend, then they may well leapfrog the Canaries into second position.
A weekend 1-0 defeat at home to National League side Barnet in the FA Cup was certainly a hugely disappointing result for the Blades as well as being slightly embarrassing, however Wilder will have his mind firmly set on promotion to the Premier League and this unexpected defeat won’t be seen as damaging for the Blades in any way. Prior to the FA Cup upset, United had put three goals past Derby County (3-1), Blackburn Rovers (3-0) and Wigan Athletic (0-3), these wins bringing back a feel-good factor which didn’t disappear after the weekend cup defeat.
As for visitors QPR, they got their campaign off to a dreadful start but since then they have found their feet in impressive fashion, their clear improvement in recent weeks lifting them from the relegation zone to within spitting distance of the Championship play-offs from where they now sit just four points adrift. Nevertheless the west London side will be desperate to return to winning ways having drawn their last two Championship outings.
QPR did manage a 2-1 FA Cup win at home to Leeds United in their last outing and this will have lifted spirits in the team, however with Rangers finding it hard to get over the line in recent weeks, the best value in this weekend’s clash with Sheffield United may be with backing a draw. These two sides have plenty of quality within the ranks and they have both impressed of late, however we feel that they will cancel each other out on Saturday afternoon with BetVictor Bookmakers going 3/1 on a draw.
