It’s somewhat unusual not to see Celtic reigning supreme at the top of the Scottish Premiership table at this stage of the season, however while the Hoops sit third in the top-flight behind Rangers and current leaders Kilmarnock, they have already helped themselves to their first piece of silverware thanks to a 1-0 win over Aberdeen in the Scottish League Cup final last weekend. Not only that but Brendan Rodgers’ men enjoy games-in-hand over both sides above them in the league table and the Hoops boss will be confident that his side can climb to the top of the pile when they entertain Kilmarnock at Parkhead on Saturday afternoon.
Heart of Midlothian have dropped down from the top of the Premiership table with their amazing start to the campaign giving way to some disappointing recent performances. They managed a share of the spoils in a 2-2 draw at St Johnstone on Wednesday evening however and we envisage them giving a good account of themselves this weekend when they entertain a Motherwell side against which they have already enjoyed two wins this season.
Aberdeen are failing to hit the heights of last season when they were involved in a battle with Rangers for second place in the Premiership. As things stand, the Dons sit sixth in the league table although they will be in high spirits following their midweek 1-0 win over Rangers at Ibrox and we expect Derek McInnes’ men to continue the momentum when they entertain St Johnstone on Saturday afternoon.
The action continues into Sunday afternoon when Dundee welcome Rangers to Dens Park, the Dark Blues certain to be full of confidence following their shock 4-0 thrashing of Hamilton Academical earlier this week. Nevertheless Rangers will present Jim McIntyre’s men with much tougher opposition and we don’t fancy Dundee’s chances of making it two wins on the bounce.
Who will be the weekend Scottish Premiership winners and losers? Here’s what we think…
