Ronaldo 12/1 to be Champions League top-scorer following sending-off

Cristiano Ronaldo saw red last night and as such, his odds on becoming top Champions League scorer in 2018/19 have drifted to 12/1

Cristiano Ronaldo didn’t exactly enjoy his debut Champions League appearance for Serie A side Juventus last night with the Portuguese striker red-carded after he appeared to tug on the hair of Valencia’s Jeison Murillo. Juventus went on to win the match 2-0 despite being down to ten men for the final 71 minutes, however Ronaldo will have been hugely disappointed with his sending-off in the first half.

Ronaldo will have been looking to grab a few goals for Juventus in their opening Champions League group match and start his bid for top-goalscorer at the tournament, something which is now looking rather unlikely. Matters certainly weren’t helped by the fact that Barcelona’s Lionel Messi banged-in a hat-trick in the 4-0 demolition of PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday evening. Ronaldo now faces a ban and as such he has a massive mountain to climb in order to finish the competition as top goalscorer.

Lionel Messi is now the favourite to claim the Champions League Golden Boot following his exploits in Barcelona’s opening group match. The Argentinian marksman is now just 2/1 with BetVictor Bookmakers to finish as top-scorer with rival Ronaldo now out to 12/1. As such, the Juventus star now finds himself trailing in the betting market behind the likes of Robert Lewandowski (8/1) and Sergio Aguero (10/1). The question is, can he turn things around upon his return to European action and bang in the goals for the ‘Old Lady’ of Italian football?
