Only a few weeks ago it appeared that Brentford would be one of the leading contenders for a play-off place this season while QPR would be one of the strugglers close to the foot of the table, however of late these two sides have experienced completely contrasting fortunes and QPR now find themselves sitting two positions and two points above their local rivals. While Brentford have endured a miserable run of late with just a single win in their last ten outings across all competitions, Rangers have lifted themselves up the table with four wins, a draw and just a single defeat in six matches. Unfortunately for them their single defeat came last weekend against Blackburn Rovers (1-0) and as such they will be desperate to bounce back and win this weekend’s West London derby match.
QPR boss Steve McClaren appears to have instilled in his side a sense of self-belief and far from being cannon-fodder as they certainly were when losing their opening four Championship matches with an aggregate scoreline of 13-2, they now look increasingly like a side which could pull off a decent winning run and challenge for a play-off place. They will certainly be confident of success when Brentford come to town on Saturday afternoon and we can expect the home side to give a good account of themselves, the bookmakers giving away free bets on QPR v Brentford.
Brentford enjoyed an excellent start to the season but have struggled to maintain the momentum in recent weeks, their weekend 2-0 win over city rivals Millwall ending a winless run of seven matches. Thomas Frank is now the man in charge of the Bees following the departure of Dean Smith to Aston Villa although while they sit just two points adrift of their weekend opponents, we feel that Queens Park Rangers are in a much better place right now and we’ll be siding with McClaren’s men to edge their way to another three points this weekend, BetVictor Bookmakers going 21/10 on QPR to win.
