It certainly hasn’t been a great few weeks for Preston North End, Alex Neil’s men picking up just a single point from their last four Championship outings and exiting the FA Cup courtesy of a 3-1 defeat at home to League One side Doncaster Rovers on Sunday afternoon. The Lilywhites have at least managed to haul themselves clear of the relegation zone following a disastrous start to the season and should they manage to emulate the sort of form which lifted them up the Championship table throughout October, November and early December, then they could conceivably finish in the top-half of the table.
As things stand, this is starting to look a little unlikely and the indications are that they will continue to slide inexorably down the division. Neil’s men have managed just seven league wins since the start of the campaign with eleven defeats during that time and while they have banged-in 38 goals, they have leaked 43 at the other end. In front of their home fans, the Lancashire side have fared better with just three defeats from thirteen outings although they will be in for a tough time of things when Swansea come to town on Saturday afternoon.
The visiting Swans will doubtless be aiming to bounce straight back into the Premier League at the first time of asking following their relegation at the end of last season, however as things stand they sit seven points adrift of the play-off places and they really do need to win games like this one. Graham Potter’s men will have had their confidence boosted by their two emphatic wins over Reading (1-4) and Aston Villa (0-3 FA Cup) in their last two outings however and we envisage them doing just about enough to edge their way to three points at Deepdale this weekend, William Hill Bookmakers going 2/1 on Swansea City to win.
