Much needed wins

Things have become much more interesting at the bottom end of the Premier League table with both Aston Villa and AFC Bournemouth enjoying much needed wins last time out, the Cherries surprising everyone by thumping top-three hopefuls Leicester City to the tune of 4-1 and Aston Villa brushing aside Crystal Palace 2-0. Both teams are still expected to drop down into the Championship at the end of the campaign however with Bournemouth a general 1/10 punt to join Norwich City in the second tier and Aston Villa 1/8 to drop down. Nevertheless Eddie Howe’s men have only taken around 9% of all bets in the market while the Villans have accumulated around 10% of all bets.

Better value

Clearly the extremely short odds on offer have impacted on the number of bets being taken on either side to be relegated and the sides above them in the Premier League table have proven to be much more popular. Indeed punters clearly believe that there is much value to be had elsewhere and over the past 24 hours around 30% of all bets on the relegation market have been aimed towards Watford, despite them beating Newcastle United last weekend.

Seagulls attracting attention

The Hornets are a general 4/1 shout for relegation to the Championship with some firms going as low as 7/2. At a much bigger price, punters have been aiming towards Brighton & Hove Albion, the Seagulls some five points above the bottom three but many clearly being tempted by odds as high as 90/1. The south-coast side were walloped 5-0 by Manchester City last time out although they now have an easier set of fixtures heading towards the end of the campaign.

Convincing win

West Ham United are the other side left in the equation, the Hammers enjoying a convincing win over already-relegated Norwich City but still just three points above the bottom three with three games left to play.
