Two back-to-back 4-0 wins over Hungary and Andorra have further cemented England’s lead in World Cup Qualifying Group I and they have a chance to take another huge step towards Qatar 2022 when they face second-placed Poland on Wednesday evening. The Three Lions are expected to take all three points here but it certainly won’t be plain sailing.

England are exactly half-way through their 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign and with five wins from five, it’s not hard to see why they are 1/40 favourites to qualify automatically for the competition. The hard work isn’t over however and Gareth Southgate’s men face a tough assignment on Wednesday when they lock horns with second-placed Poland.

It’s no huge shock to see England in their current lofty position. The likes of San Marino and Andorra have been demolished as expected while wins have also been enjoyed over Albania and Poland, however in the latter half of the campaign they will face their toughest test first and maximum points in Poland this week will strengthen their position considerably.

It’s likely that the Poles will finish in the top-two behind England although after this next set of fixtures they will likely drop outside these spots given that third-placed Albania go head-to-head with FIFA lowest-ranked side San Marino the same evening.

The Three Lions are once again odds-on for the three points and little wonder given their excellent second-half performance in the 4-0 thrashing of Hungary. A subsequent win by the same scoreline over Andorra was only to be expected and a full-strength line-up will look to do the business in this midweek affair.

Given that the only high-scoring games involving England seem to come against the ‘lesser’ sides, backing the Three Lions to win and under 3.5 goals seems the best way to approach this match, especially since just one of their seven Euro 2020 matches went above this goals line. Poland certainly don’t fall into this category and on home soil they will present the visitors with many challenges.
