Portsmouth have been one of the frontrunners in League One this season but their recent poor run has sent them spiralling down the league table where they currently sit third behind Barnsley and Luton Town. Indeed for much of the season, Pompey have appeared to be the best team in the third tier but over the past month or so their form has dipped alarmingly with a Checkatrade Trophy quarter-final victory being their only positive result in seven outings.
With Pompey slipping down the league table, they find themselves having the likes of Sunderland and Charlton Athletic breathing down their necks with the Black Cats having two games in hand as things stand. As such, Portsmouth can’t really afford any more slip-ups should they wish to be in with a chance of automatic promotion this term.

Plymouth’s season is pretty much a repeat of last season thus far, the Pilgrims struggling in the earlier stages of the campaign but improving dramatically after Christmas. They appear to have left it far too late to have a chance of making the play-offs but they have now distanced themselves from the relegation battle and look set to fight another day in League One.
Derek Adams’ side have won all-but-one of their last six games and this has lifted them four points clear of the relegation zone in what is a very tight bottom-half of the table, however Portsmouth remain in touch with the automatic promotion berths and we envisage this being enough incentive for the visitors to edge their way to three points at Home Park, Coral Bookmakers going 11/10 on Portsmouth to win.
