Olivia Colman a big mover in Oscar 2019 ‘Best Actress’ market

Bookmakers have slashed the odds on Olivia Colman winning Best Actress at this year's Oscars with the Broadchurch star as low as 4/1 in places

Olivia Colman picked up a gong at the 2019 BAFTSs and the bookmakers are growing confident that she will pick up another at this year’s Oscars.

Colman starred in The Favourite and this movie dominated the British Academy of Film and Television Arts awards ceremony last weekend with seven awards coming from twelve nominations. Colman picked up the ‘Best Actress’ gong for her portrayal of Queen Anne and her odds on winning the same category at the Oscars have subsequently been slashed from 7/1 to as low as 4/1 in places, the actress receiving a reported 49% of all total bets in this category. Nevertheless she remains well behind Glenn Close in this market, star of ‘The Wife’ coming in at 1/5 to collect a gong on the night.

Alfonso Cuaron has seen his odds to be named Best Director slashed from 1/9 to just 1/20 for the movie Roma. In the BAFTAs, Roma won Best Picture and Rami Malek grabbed the Best Actor accolade for his portrayal of Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody, both becoming firm favourites in their respective categories in the 2019 Oscar awards, Roma 1/3 with Ladbrokes Bookmakers and Malek 1/4 with the same firm.
