Notts County favourites to climb straight back into Football League next season

Notts County dropped out of the Football League at the end of 2018/19 although the bookies predict that their spell in the National League will be a brief one

Notts County is famous for being the oldest professional football club in the world, it’s formation even preceding that of the Football League itself. Nevertheless they found themselves relegated into the National League at the end of 2018/19 having won just 9 of their 46 league matches throughout the campaign.

Pundits predict that their spell in the National League will be limited to just a single season with Paddy Power Bookmakers going 13/2 that they bounce straight back into League Two at the first time of asking as champions. Indeed while the National League has a reputation for being hugely competitive and hard to get back out of, Leyton Orient managed to haul themselves straight back into the Football League at the end of last season and the indications are that the Magpies will also give it a decent shot.

Chesterfield are another former Football League club which now find themselves in the non-league ‘wilderness’ and they too are fancied to achieve promotion at the end of next season. The Spireites finished a hugely disappointing 15th in the final table at the end of last term although the bookmakers envisage them making a better hash of things next season with most firms going 7/1 that they win promotion back into the Football League as champions after an absence of two seasons.
