Chelsea may have lifted the Europa League trophy last night but speculation still surrounds the future of Maurizio Sarri at Stamford Bridge

Next Chelsea Manager Odds

Update: 19.06.19

The appointment of Frank Lampard as next Chelsea manager is expected to be announced soon with the Rams boss remaining huge odds-on favourite for the gig. Indeed while Lampard may have pledged his future to Derby County, the likelihood of him turning down the Chelsea position should he be offered it is very slim. Indeed according to Southampton legend and Sky Sports Pundit Matt Le Tissier, it would be nigh-on impossible for the Rams boss to turn his back on a club where he remains top goalscorer to this day.

Le Tissier firmly believes that the transfer ban at Stamford Bridge has boosted Lampard’s chances of being offered the job, the Blues unable to sign any players in the next two transfer windows. Indeed the former Saints player claims that more experienced managers won’t be interested in the vacant position due to the inability to bring in new players and as such, Lampard will almost certainly be seen as the perfect man for the role.

Lampard has only a single season’s experience in management but he has massive knowledge of the game in general thanks to an excellent playing career.

Update: 18.06.19

Frank Lampard is starting to look a shoo-in for the vacant Chelsea position with his uncle Harry Redknapp saying that it “looks like it’s going to happen”.

Derby County manager Lampard is huge odds-on favourite to take charge of the Blues ahead of the new season after Maurizio Sarri left for Juventus and it would be a massive coup for the Rams boss given that he has only been in management for twelve months, the 40-year-old having guided Derby to the Championship play-off final where they lost to Aston Villa.

Redknapp said to the BBC:

“If Chelsea come calling, it’s a difficult one for him to turn down.

“In my personal opinion, he’ll be the manager of Chelsea.

“It looks to me like it’s going to happen.”

Redknapp revealed that he had recommended Frank Lampard to Derby County chairman Mel Morris before he was even on their radar. Should the Rams boss be appointed at Stamford Bridge, there wouldn’t be a huge amount of expectation or pressure. Indeed would be very much a no-lose situation unless he failed to steer the side into the top-six in the Premier League. Few would expect him to lead Chelsea into a top-three finish in his first season in charge and he would certainly have the backing of the fans given that he is a real Chelsea legend.

Redknapp continued:

“He’s a true legend at Chelsea, one of the greatest players in the club’s history.

“It may not come along again, you never know in football, the opportunity is there for him to go back now.

“He has a house around the corner from the training ground, his wife works in London.”

Update:  17.06.19

Some bookmakers have now closed the book completely on the ‘Next Chelsea Manager’ market while others are going as low as 1/25 that Derby County boss Frank Lampard gets the gig in the next few days. Indeed reports suggest that the Blues board are on the verge of announcing the former midfielder’s appointment and it would certainly be one of the big news items of the summer were he to make the move.

Lampard spent thirteen years as a player at Stamford Bridge and he was a huge fans’ favourite with a club-record 211 goals scored whilst in a Chelsea shirt. The 40-year-old has only had one years’ experience as a manager however, having taken current club Derby County to the Championship play-off finals earlier this year, ultimately losing to Aston Villa.

Clearly the Rams would dearly love to keep Lampard at Pride Park but it would appear that they are in a losing battle with the manager certain to find it difficult to turn down such an opportunity.

Lampard’s lack of experience is a slight concern although this doesn’t appear to have dented his chances of becoming next in charge at Stamford Bridge and we await with anticipation what now seems like the inevitable announcement that Frank Lampard will be the next permanent boss of Chelsea.

Update: 14.06.19

Now that Maurizio Sarri has finally made the switch to Serie A side Juventus, the scene has been set for the arrival of Frank Lampard at Stamford Bridge. The bookmakers have slashed the odds on the Derby County boss taking the reins at Chelsea with some firms going as low as 1/16 that Lampard moves to the west London club in the coming days. Indeed the general consensus is that the appointment of Chelsea’s all-time leading goalscorer as manager will be announced sooner rather than later.

The appointment of Lampard will be a hugely popular one amongst the Blues faithful although his lack of experience in managerial circles will be a cause for concern. Clearly this has been a consideration amongst the club board members and his relative success at Derby County (steering the side into the Championship play-off final) will have boosted his chances.

A deal with Lampard has yet to be arranged but reports suggest that Chelsea are making a start on a process to bring in a replacement for Sarri just eleven months after appointing the Italian last summer.

Update 12.06.19

Frank Lampard remains overwhelming favourite to succeed Maurizio Sarri at Stamford Bridge, despite the former Blues star having no experience whatsoever of managing a Premier League side. Nevertheless the Derby County boss has given youngsters a chance at Pride Park during his time with the East Midlands club and this will clearly appeal to a Chelsea outfit which look set to be on the receiving end of a transfer ban from the FA. Lampard was spotted in London with Chelsea ambassador Didier Drogba yesterday and this heightened speculation that his appointment as Blues boss will be announced very soon. The bookmakers have reacted swiftly by shortening Lampard’s odds even further with Paddy Power now going just 1/5 (from 4/7 only two days ago) that the Rams manager takes charge at Stamford Bridge in the coming days. Newcastle United gaffer Rafael Benitez remains his closest threat according to the bookmakers with most firms going 9/2 that the Spaniard takes the reins while Patrick Viera is a 5/1 shot. Some reports suggest that the Chelsea board are considering appointing Jose Mourinho for a third spell as manager and the ‘Special One’ is a 9/1 punt to take the hot-seat in time for the start of next season.

Update 11.06.19

A shock contender to be next Chelsea manager has emerged with the bookies slashing the odds on Rafael Benitez being appointed in the hot-seat over the next few days. The Newcastle United manager was a 33/1 shot this morning, however over the past few hours his odds have tumbled to as low as 9/2, thus making him second-favourite to odds-on Frank Lampard. The Magpies boss has been embroiled in a continual tussle regarding his contract at St James’ Park which comes to an end this summer and having steered Newcastle away from the danger zone more than once since he arrived on Tyneside, he has now firmly re-established himself as one of the best managers in the game following a disappointing spell with Real Madrid.

The 59-year-old was interim manager of Chelsea in 2012/13 following the dismissal of Roberto Di Matteo although despite leading the Blues to the Europa League trophy and a top-three finish in the Premier League (the same as Maurizio Sarri this season), the fans never warmed to the Spaniard and his spell in the Stamford Bridge hot-seat was brief. Lampard remains odds-on favourite at 2/5 although there have been reports suggesting that the Chelsea board will be looking for someone who has a proven track record at the top level. Lampard lacks this. Benitez certainly doesn’t!

Update 11.06.19

Frank Lampard remains odds-on favourite to be next in charge of Chelsea and the players have made it clear that they would be more than happy were the Derby County manager to take the reins from Maurizio Sarri, however there appears to be a stumbling block in the way, one which Lampard won’t be able to overcome.

Chelsea have enjoyed a decent season with Europa League success and a top-three finish in the Premier League coming their way, therefore it is understandable that they will be eager to appointment a manager who has past-experience of delivering this with other clubs. Indeed while Frank Lampard is being widely touted as a likely successor to Sarri, the Rams boss certainly doesn’t enjoy the success of some of his rivals for the position. Massimiliano Allegri steered Juventus to five Serie A titles and he achieved the same with AC Milan while Frank Lampard has only been in management for a single season and his sole achievement has been to take the Rams to the Championship play-offs, a match which they subsequently lost.

As such, there is a distinct probability that the Chelsea board may decide to look past Lampard in their search for a suitable replacement for Sarri and while the Derby manager remains a huge odds-on favourite to be next in charge at Stamford Bridge at 4/7, we don’t really fancy his chances of being next in the hot-seat at the west London club.

Update 10.06.19

The odds on Frank Lampard becoming next manager of Chelsea continue to shorten with some firms now going 1/3 that the Derby County boss is next in the Stamford Bridge hot-seat. Lampard has pledged his immediate future to the Rams although in fairness that is only to be expected and most pundits agree that it is only a matter of time before he returns to the west London club. Indeed with current Blues manager Maurizio Sarri about to ‘up sticks’ and make a move to Juventus during the summer, Chelsea have made it no real secret that they have their sights firmly aimed in Lampard’s direction.

The Rams narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League at the end of last season when they lost to Aston Villa in the play-off final, however this is a great chance for Lampard to get his first experience of managing in the top-flight and the odds clearly indicate that he is the man to beat in a contest which must surely reach its conclusion very soon indeed.

Update 06.06.19

Frank Lampard may remain odds-on favourite to take the reins at Stamford Bridge this summer, however recent reports appear to pour scorn on such a move actually taking place. It had been rumoured that Derby County were putting contingency plans in place in the event that Lampard left for Chelsea, however while they had allegedly identified Charlton Athletic boss Lee Bowyer as a possible replacement, it has since become known that these rumours were not true and with Lampard continuing in his preparations for the 2019/20 season with Derby County, the likelihood of him remaining at Pride Park after the summer seems to be pretty high.

This will certainly be a huge relief to Derby fans, however it is perhaps a little soon for them to be getting too excited. Until an official announcement is made concerning Lampard’s possible move to Stamford Bridge, there really is little else he can actually do apart from prepare for the season ahead with his current club. That’s what he is paid for and until he moves elsewhere he can hardly down tools, so to speak. Hope will be high that he will remain with Derby County into the new campaign but only time will tell whether the lure of his former club will prove too strong and he remains odds-on at 4/6 to make a move to west London before the start of 2019/20.

Update 05.06.19

The search for a new Chelsea manager continues and while Frank Lampard remains the bookmakers’ favourite to be next in charge of the Blues at odds of 4/6, the big mover over the last 48 hours has been Watford boss Javi Gracia. The 49-year-old enjoyed an excellent season with the Hornets in 2018/19 with his side appearing in what was admittedly a thoroughly one-sided FA Cup Final and finishing the campaign in a comfortable mid-table position in the Premier League.

With Maurizio Sarri set for a move to Italian giants Juventus over the summer, Gracia is being linked with a move to Stamford Bridge and as such his odds on being appointed as manager have been slashed from 25/1 to as low as 9/2 with Paddy Power Bookmakers.

Elsewhere, recently-departed Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri has now slipped from 2/1 to 7/1 to take the reins at Stamford Bridge after the Chelsea board allegedly claimed to have no interest in him. Meanwhile, Derby County have stated that they would be keen on appointing Lee Bowyer at Pride Park should current boss Frank Lampard make the move to west London during the summer, thus heightening the speculation that the Rams gaffer will be appointed sooner rather than later.

Update 04.06.19

Former Arsenal captain Patrick Viera may be in line to make a remarkable return to the Premier League with his odds on being appointed as Chelsea boss slashed from 50/1 to just 7/2 over the past few days. Maurizio Sarri may still be in the hot-seat at Stamford Bridge but he is 1/4 odds-on to move to Juventus over the summer – thus implying an 80% chance that he will be in Turin at the start of next season – and as such the Blues are on the hunt for a new manager.

Viera has had a good season with his club, Nice, finishing seventh in the Ligue One table, however punters are far from convinced that he will be the man to take Chelsea forward next term with around 4.3% of all bets aimed towards him. This is in stark contrast to current favourite Frank Lampard who has been the subject of 37.5 of all bets in this market and remains odds-on to take charge at Stamford Bridge in time for the new season. Third in the betting is Massimiliano Allegri at 7/1 with Paddy Power (some bookies going as low as 2/1) although reports suggest that the Chelsea board have reservations about making the former Juventus boss their next manager.

A surprise contender for the Chelsea job is former boss Jose Mourinho, the ‘Special One’ receiving around 12.8% of all bets and available at 16/1 for a third spell with the Blues.

There have been rumours circulating that Chelsea may be about to swoop for Watford boss Javi Gracia and this has resulted in the bookies slashing his odds from 16/1 to just 6/1 over the past 24 hours or so.

Update 03.06.19

Chelsea have decided that they will dispense with the services of manager Maurizio Sarri – despite their recent Europa League success – and there will be a new man in the dug-out at the start of the new season. As things stand, Frank Lampard is expected to take over from Sarri in the next few days and the bookmakers continue to regard the Derby County boss as the most likely contender.

Nevertheless while it appears that Lampard is Chelsea’s first choice, the Derby manager may decide to remain at Pride Park instead and focus on lifting the Rams into the Premier League following their play-off final disappointment earlier this month.

Many Chelsea fans believe that it is only a matter of time before the club announce Lampard as successor to Sarri, however the 40-year-old is only one of many potential replacements for the Italian.

Maurizio Sarri is set to take charge at Juventus after the departure of Massimiliano Allegri and the latter is a serious contender to move in the opposite direction and take charge at Stamford Bridge.

Indeed Allegri has allegedly spoken to friends and told them that he would be keen on managing Chelsea, these reports prompting the bookmakers to slash the odds on the former Juventus boss being next in the Stamford Bridge hot-seat to just 2/1, ahead of Mikel Arteta (5/2) and Patrick Viera (7/2).

Update 31.05.19

With Maurizio Sarri still linked with a move to Juventus during the summer, a surprise contender to replace him in the hot-seat at Stamford Bridge has emerged in the form of Patrick Viera. The former Gunners captain is now one of the favourites to take control of the Blues with most bookmakers slashing his odds from 7/1 to 4/1 that he moves to West London in time for the start of next season. Viera has long been envisioned as a future Arsenal boss and he was linked with the position last year following the departure of long-term manager Arsene Wenger.

With the Gunners still nursing their wounds following their 4-1 thumping by Chelsea in the Europa League Final earlier this week, seeing Viera sitting in the Stamford Bridge dugout would clearly be another massive sucker punch to the Gunners faithful.

Frank Lampard remains firm odds-on favourite to take the reins during the summer but one certainly shouldn’t overlook the other contenders such as Viera, Mikel Arteta and Massimiliano Allegri.

Update 30.05.19

Despite Chelsea lifting the Europa League trophy in Baku last night thanks to their emphatic 4-1 win over Arsenal, the likelihood that manager Maurizio Sarri will remain as manager with the Blues remains pretty slim according to the bookmakers with most firms still going 1/4 that Frank Lampard is in the dug-out at the start of next season.

Nevertheless after steering Chelsea to their first piece of silverware under his watch, Sarri insists that he deserves to stay at Stamford Bridge. We would be inclined to agree although the interest shown by Italian champions Juventus may prompt Sarri to return to his homeland whether or not the Blues board decide to keep him on the books.

Even in the midst of European glory, Maurizio Sarri’s achievements were somewhat overshadowed by the admission by Eden Hazard that he is desperate to leave this summer although the Italian boss made it clear that he would be happy to remain in his position as Chelsea boss if Roman Abramovich wants him to stay.

Update 22.05.19

It would now seem that Frank Lampard is a shoo-in for the Chelsea job with Paddy Power Bookmakers going just 1/4 that he gets the gig before the start of next season.

The Stamford Bridge legend is just one game away from leading Derby County into the Premier League after just a single season in management, however the 40-year-old looks set to return to a club at which he made over 600 appearances.

Current Chelsea boss Mauricio Sarri looks to be living on borrowed time and the clash with city rivals Arsenal in the Europa League final will likely be his last outing as Blues manager.

Indeed even if Sarri isn’t shown the door in the coming weeks, the likelihood is that he will walk anyway with Serie A side Juventus ready to appoint him as their next manager following the sacking of Massimiliano Allegri. Such a departure would leave Chelsea looking for a new boss and Lampard would certainly fit the bill perfectly.

Derby County will clearly be desperate to keep their man but should Chelsea come calling, then the Rams would almost certainly be fighting a losing battle.

Update: 21.05.19

Frank Lampard has been a huge mover in the ‘Next Chelsea Manager’ betting market with a recent flurry of bets aimed in his direction over the past 24 hours. The Derby County boss is odds-on with some bookmakers to take the reins at Stamford Bridge in time for the start of next season and should he decide to move to the club where he made 648 appearances, then this would undoubtedly be the biggest managerial story of the summer.

Lampard is Chelsea’s all-time record goalscorer and he is clear favourite to replace current boss Maurizio Sarri. The Derby boss is preparing for his side’s upcoming Championship play-off clash with Aston Villa with the Rams priced at 13/10 to make it into the Premier League after a lengthy absence. Indeed should predictions prove correct, then Lampard could be a top-flight manager next season regardless of this weekend’s result.

Over the past 48 hours or so, around 79% of all bets in this market have been aimed towards the Derby County manager, this being a clear indication of his dominance in this market. Should Chelsea decide to look elsewhere, then the likes of Massimiliano Allegri (5/1), Diego Simeone (5/1), Steve Holland (5/1) and Nuno Espirito Santo (8/1) are also very much in contention.

15.05.19

According to reports circulating in Italy, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is on the verge of sacking boss Maurizio Sarri despite the club finishing in the top-three in the Premier League and making it into the Europa League Final.

Sarri has two years remaining on his contract although reports have suggested that Abramovich is preparing to cut short the manager’s time at Stamford Bridge after the Europa League clash with Arsenal in Baku later this month.

These reports claim that the decision to dispense with Sarri’s services is based more on his poor relationship with the fans rather on actual playing achievements, some sections of the support booing the Italian for his substitutions and other player decisions.

As such, the bookmakers have been busy pricing up potential replacements in the event that Sarri does get the chop and current Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Nuno Espirito Santo leads the betting at 17/2 to be his replacement.

Jose Mourinho is next at 9/1 although given that the reason reported for the possible sacking of Sarri is fan dissatisfaction, we don’t envisage such an appointment being too likely.

Atletico Madrid’s Diego Simeone has long been linked with a move to the Premier League and he is priced at 12/1 to make the move to Stamford Bridge with Erik ten Hag and Gianfranco Zola available at the same odds.
