Newcastle United have struggled with some poor form this season and it is little surprise to see them sitting dangerously close to the foot of the Premier League table. Following another desperately quiet summer on the transfer front, frustration has grown amongst the fanbase and things aren’t much better on-field with just six points picked up from eleven Premier League matches. Indeed this promises to be a long, hard season for the Magpies and there’s little reason to believe that their woes will be eased when they welcome AFC Bournemouth to St James’ Park this weekend.
In the home camp, encouragement will have been taken from the 1-0 win over Watford last time out with Ayoze Perez scoring the only goal at St James’ Park. Benitez’ men have home advantage again this coming weekend although it remains hard to have much confidence in the home side’s abilities of making it two wins on the bounce, the bookmakers giving away free bets on Newcastle United v AFC Bournemouth.
The visiting Cherries are thus far enjoying an excellent campaign with Eddie Howe continuing to prove himself at the top level. Indeed the Bournemouth boss has lifted the club from the brink of dropping out of the Football League altogether up to the Premier League where they currently occupy a top-six position. Howe’s men lost at home to Manchester United last time out but this was their first defeat in seven competitive outings for Bournemouth and we firmly believe that they can bounce back from that disappointment and rediscover the form which has served them so well in recent months.
There’s little doubt that Bournemouth will give a good account of themselves at St James’ Park this weekend and we envisage the Magpies struggling to find a way past them. The home side will have had their confidence boosted by their win over the Hornets last weekend but they have lost each of their other five home games this season, therefore we’ll be siding with the Cherries to edge their way to victory in what looks set to be a low-scoring affair, Ladbrokes Bookmakers going 17/4 on Bournemouth to win and under 2.5 total goals.
