By their own exacting standards, Manchester City appear to have had something of a mid-season crisis although they responded to successive defeats to Crystal Palace (2-3) and Leicester City (2-1) in perfect fashion with a 2-1 win over Premier League leaders Liverpool and a subsequent 7-0 thumping of Rotherham United in the FA Cup last time out. After 21 league outings, Pep Guardiola’s side have banged-in 56 goals with just 17 conceded during this time and despite struggling slightly in December, they have impressed in all areas since the start of the season.
The Citizens have now cut their gap between themselves and Liverpool to just four points and with the Reds having lost their last two outings in all competitions, the opportunity is there for Guardiola’s side to take full advantage of Liverpool’s recent woes and cut that gap even further.
As for Wolverhampton Wanderers, they followed their hugely impressive 3-1 win at Tottenham Hotspur with a disappointing 2-0 defeat at home to Crystal Palace, however a subsequent 2-1 victory over Liverpool in the FA Cup will have lifted spirits in the visitors’ camp ahead of their trip to the Etihad Stadium and they will take further comfort from their decent away form which has seen the West Midlands outfit win four of their games on the road.
That said, City are looking pretty invincible in front of their home fans this term with ten wins and just a single defeat from their eleven outings at the Etihad. Indeed the Citizens have won all-but-three of their eleven home matches by a margin of at least two goals and as such we’ll be siding with this particular outcome on Monday evening as the reigning champions look to put out a marker for their intentions in 2019, Coral Bookmakers going 29/20 on Manchester City -2 on Handicap market.
