Having stumbled over Christmas, Manchester City were able to make up ground on Premier League leaders Liverpool courtesy of a 2-1 win over the Reds at the Etihad Stadium at the start of January. Indeed while the Citizens suffered a shock defeat to Newcastle United last week, Jurgen Klopp’s men were unable to take advantage of this with a draw against Leicester City at Anfield.
Manchester City had a chance to narrow the gap between themselves and Liverpool to just two points when they locked horns with Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium at the weekend and they showed their intent by beating the Gunners to the tune of 3-1, Sergio Aguero banging-in a hat-trick for good measure.
With Liverpool not in action until this evening when they meet West Ham, City now sit just two points behind the league leaders and as such the bookmakers are pondering the Premier League title race once again. The Reds remain odds-on to lift the Premier League trophy at 8/13 with Ladbrokes Bookmakers but City are breathing down their necks at 5/4 with the same firm, Tottenham Hotspur next on the outright betting at 22/1 ahead of also-rans Manchester United (300/1) and Chelsea (500/1).
Following their emphatic defeat to City, Arsenal are now out at 750/1 to end their lengthy trophy drought and the bookmakers are far from convinced that Unai Emery will guide his Gunners into the top-four at the end of the campaign.
