Liverpool made it to the Champions League Final in 2018 where they were soundly beaten by Real Madrid to the tune of 3-1, however with the Spanish giants now out of the picture, many pundits believe that Jurgen Klopp’s men can go all the way this time around, the bookmakers reacting to their excellent 3-1 victory at Bayern Munich this week by slashing their odds to just 9/2 with regard to becoming European champions.
Clearly there’s some way to go yet but the manner in which Liverpool disposed of the Bundesliga side at the Allianz Arena was impressive, the visitors having less possession than the home side but having far more shots on target and making Bayern pay dearly for their toothless display.
Sadio Mane opened the scoring in the 26th minute to put the Reds into the lead and while Bayern hit back before the break with a Joel Matip leveller, the Reds put things out of reach with Van Dijk adding to the scoreline and Mane adding his second to make it 3-1 to Liverpool.
The Reds now find themselves in the last eight of the competition along with three other Premier League sides in the form of Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur. Man City remain firm favourites to win the competition at 9/4 ahead of second-placed Barcelona at 10/3. Juventus are a 7/2 shot with Liverpool not too far behind at 9/2.
