Seen by many fans as one of the best away days in the country, Lincoln City have been enjoying some good times since they hauled themselves out of the National League at the end of season 2016/17. They made it into the League Two play-offs in their first season back in the Football League – ultimately losing to eventual finalists Exeter City – and the evidence suggests that they can go one better at the end of the current campaign.
As things stand, the Imps sit in pole position in the League Two table with two points separating them from second-placed Mansfield Town and a gap of nine points existing between themselves and fourth-placed Forest Green Rovers. Danny Cowley’s men have slipped-up slightly in recent weeks with points dropped in three of their last five league matches but they remain favourites to win the League Two title at the end of the season at odds of 10/11 with William Hill.
Mansfield Town currently sit second in the League Two table thanks to some excellent recent form which has seen them go five games without defeat. Their form in front of the home fans has been key to their relative success this season with just two league defeats at Field Mill and bookies have them chalked-in at 2/1 to finish the season in pole position, ahead of third-placed Bury at 13/2.
MK Dons have been one of the frontrunners for much of the season although a poor run has sent them spiralling down to seventh in the league table. The Dons are fourth-favourites to actually go on to win the division title although they have lost four of their last five outings and on this evidence it would appear that any hopes they had of clinching pole position at the end of the season are effectively dead in the water. Nevertheless the bookmakers are cautiously optimistic that they can turn things around and as things stand they are 14/1 to win the title.

Undoubtedly the in-form team in the upper reaches of the League Two table is Carlisle United, the Cumbrians now under the guidance of former Scotland defender Steven Pressley and sitting fifth in the division. Carlisle have generally struggled with inconsistency this season although they have won seven of their last eight matches, a 3-0 thrashing by Northampton Town last month spoiling an otherwise excellent record over the past couple of months. Given their inconsistencies earlier in the campaign, the bookmakers are far from convinced about Carlisle’s chances of lifting the League Two title, however going on recent form we wouldn’t be surprised were they to emerge as one of the leading contenders over the next few weeks, especially if they can continue their winning run with victory over Exeter City this weekend, William Hill Bookmakers going 20/1 that the Cumbrians finish the campaign in pole position.
