Tight at the top
Victory for West Bromwich Albion on Tuesday evening could be enough to lift them above Leeds United and into pole position in the Championship table, however Marcelo Bielsa’s men need to wait until Thursday evening to post their reply. Things remain fairly tight at the summit of the division with just three points separating the Whites and the Baggies, however Leeds have the easier assignment when they do battle with rock-bottom side Barnsley at Elland Road.
The West Yorkshire side returned from the break with a 2-0 defeat to Cardiff City, however they have dropped just two points in their subsequent five games – a run which includes a 5-0 thrashing of Stoke City earlier this month. The Whites returned from Swansea City with three points in the bag courtesy of a 1-0 win at the Liberty Stadium on Sunday afternoon and confidence will therefore be high ahead of their meeting with Barnsley this week.
Things haven’t gone too well for Barnsley in recent weeks, the resurgence of Luton Town leaving the Tykes a single point adrift at the foot of the Championship table. They have managed a couple of wins since their return from lockdown but that hasn’t been enough to help them climb away from the relegation zone. Barnsley have managed to share the spoils in each of their last two games although those were against sides in the bottom half of the league table. In contrast, Leeds have been the most consistent of the promotion chasers this season and as such, we believe that this match can only go one way.
