Jofra Archer a 16/1 shot for Sports Personality Of The Year Award

England seamer Jofra Archer's odds on winning Sports Personality of the Year have been slashed from 50/1 to just 16/1 over the past few days

A flurry of bets have been aimed towards Jofra Archer in the Sports Personality of the Year betting market, the England seamer having his odds slashed from 50/1 to just 16/1 following an excellent start to his maiden appearance in the Ashes Test series.

The 24-year-old gave a hugely convincing performance at Lords when unsettling Australia’s Steve Smith and he has therefore found himself the centre of attention as far as SPOTY is concerned, a reported 54% of all bets in the market being aimed towards the Barbardos-born bowler.

Archer was impressive at the Cricket World Cup earlier this year and fans up and down the country waited eagerly to see whether he could replicate this excellent form in the Ashes series. He certainly hasn’t disappointed thus far with an excellent spell against Steve Smith and this has prompted a flurry of bets being directed at the 24-year-old.

On the back of England’s victory in the 2019 Cricket World Cup Final last month, the SPOTY betting market has been dominated by the Three Lions team with Ben Stokes firm favourite to win the coveted award at odds of just 5/4. Stokes has now leapfrogged former favourite Lewis Hamilton (13/2) and Raheem Sterling (9/1) into pole position.
