  • Donald Trump’s odds are lengthening day by day
  • Joe Biden is now favourite to win the 2020 US Presidential Election
  • The contest promises to be a closely-fought battle

Biden in the lead

Joe Biden has now overtaken Donald Trump in the US Presidential Election betting market with every UK bookmaker making him odds-on to take the reins from Donald Trump later this year. This is the first time since the markets opened that Donald Trump hasn’t been in pole position and it comes as a result of Trump’s handling of the ‘Black Lives Matter’ protests that have taken place across the United States and further afield over the past few days.

The leading bookmakers have slashed the odds on Biden taking the hot-seat to 19/20 while Trump follows on at 11/10, thus equating to an implied probability of 51.3% for Joe Biden and 47.6% for Donald Trump. Indeed a reported 71% of all bets over the last week have been aimed towards the Democrat and while the odds of the main candidates have been changing constantly each day for the past few months, this latest shift has been seen as evidence that things could be about to change in the White House.

Gap closed

Throughout the Democrat Party’s primaries, Trump had a healthy lead over his opposition rivals although the gap has closed completely following Biden being named as the presumptive nominee. Not only that but Trump’s handling of the Covid-19 crisis has been criticised in all quarters over the past couple of months and this week’s events have polarised things even further.
