Demolition job

Things are starting to become a little clearer at the bottom end of the Championship table, Hull City’s utter demolition by Wigan Athletic on Tuesday evening making it much more likely that they will be plying their trade in League One next term. Indeed this was a thoroughly dismal evening for the Tigers and it is becoming clear that they are now out of their depth in this hugely competitive division.

Bottom three

The East Yorkshire outfit are now firmly in the bottom three in the league table and while just a single point separates them from fourth-from-bottom side Charlton Athletic, the latter have a game in hand.

Hull’s thrashing extended their losing run to four games during which they have leaked no less than fifteen goals with three scored in reply. The Tigers have lost five of their seven outings since their return from the break with just a single win along the way and the bookies have them chalked in as 2/5 second favourites for the drop, only rock-bottom side Barnsley available at shorter odds.

Tricky run-in

Hull City’s final two fixtures are particularly tricky, a visit of in-form Luton Town on Saturday afternoon being followed by a trip to promotion-chasing Cardiff City. With that in mind, we don’t envisage any great escapes coming the Tigers’ way and the likelihood is that they will be plying their trade in the third tier next season.
