Most pundits predicted that Huddersfield Town’s stay in the Premier League would be a brief one, however they proved their many doubters wrong by avoiding relegation at the end of their first campaign in the top-flight for fifty years. The Terriers put in some impressive performances along the way and while they stumbled with some poor form at times, they ensured that they finished with sufficient points to fight another day, their safety confirmed following a 1-1 draw with Chelsea in May.
David Wagner remains in charge at Huddersfield despite the manager attracting plenty of interest from elsewhere and there have been some notable new arrivals over the past few weeks with the likes of Florent Hadergjonaj and Adama Diakhaby certain to bolster the squad. Nevertheless the Terriers face a tough opening match of 2018/19 and we’re far from confident that they will manage anything from this meeting with the Blues, the bookmakers giving away free bets on Huddersfield Town v Chelsea.
This is the start of yet another new era for Chelsea with Maurizio Sarri taking the reins following the departure of Antonio Conte. Eden Hazard remains in a Chelsea shirt – at least for the time being – although Thibaut Courtois has left for pastures new to be replaced by former Athletic Bilbao goal-keeper Kepa. Another notable arrival has been Jorginho and together they can be confident of getting off to a decent start this weekend.
Sarri’s style will take a while for his side to get used to and the teething problems were immediately apparent when Chelsea were outclassed by Manchester City in the Community Shield last time out, however we’ll be siding with the West Londoners to collect the three points at the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday. The Terriers may have made some useful additions to their squad but there remain clear weaknesses up front and given that they were poor on the goal-scoring front last season with a mere 28 scored throughout the entire campaign, we’ll be siding with Chelsea to return home with three points and a clean sheet for their troubles, Ladbrokes Bookmakers going 31/20 on Chelsea to win-to-nil.
