Real Madrid don't want him and Manchester United aren't interested, so where will the Welsh Wizard end up next season?

Update:  17.06.19

Despite numerous reports continuing to link Gareth Bale with a move to Old Trafford, Man United have stated quite clearly that they have no interest in signing the Welsh international from Real Madrid this summer. The United bosses firmly believe that the player doesn’t fit the profile of the club given that he will be turning 30 later this month and the Red Devils are on the hunt for a young and hungry player.

United have had an interest in signing Bale from Real Madrid for much of the past six seasons and had hoped to secure his signature on numerous occasions, however they have decided that this time has now passed and they will be focusing their attention on other targets instead.

Manchester United attempted to lure Bale from Tottenham Hotspur in 2013 for what would have been a world record transfer fee, however the player decided against moving to Old Trafford and instead decided to up sticks for the Bernabeu, despite United making a higher offer. Despite losing out on that occasion, the Red Devils maintained their interest in the player and pursued him on numerous occasions. Nevertheless Bale never showed any signs that he would be prepared to move to Old Trafford and instead continued to fight for a first-team place at Real Madrid.

Bale has now reluctantly accepted that he has no place at the Bernabeu any more with the Spanish giants overhauling their squad with the addition of Eden Hazard as part of a £280million spending spree. Real will therefore be looking to recoup a massive transfer fee and rid themselves of the estimated £350,000 weekly wage.

Despite United having no interest in Bale, the punters clearly think otherwise and they continue to back a move to Old Trafford over the summer, the bookmakers going just 7/4 that a move to Old Trafford is on the cards, ahead of Bayern Munich at 5/2 and a return to Tottenham Hotspur at 3/1.

Real Madrid splashed out a record £85 million to tempt Gareth Bale from White Hart Lane six years ago and while he has racked up plenty of winners’ medals and lifted umpteen trophies during his time with the Spanish giants, it is fair to say that his time spent at the Bernabeu hasn’t been straightforward. Indeed his standing with Real has plummeted to such an extent that boss Zinedine Zidane stated that he wouldn’t even select Bale as substitute and now that Eden Hazard is soon to arrive from Chelsea, it would appear that the time is right for Bale to move elsewhere.

The big question is, where? Any club interested in signing the Welsh Wizard would need to have plenty of cash to splash around given that his wage demands are certain to be astronomical and a sizeable fee will be required in order to land the 29-year-old. One such club is Manchester United and they have been linked with Bale over the past couple of seasons, however reports suggest that the Red Devils are no longer interested in the Real player due to a change in transfer policy under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the likelihood of the Welshman ending up at Old Trafford is starting to look slim.

If United aren’t interested in Bale, then where exactly might he end up? Old Trafford remains his most likely destination this summer at 5/4 while former employers Tottenham Hotspur are next in line at 11/4. Strangely Everton are fourth-favourites after Bayern Munich in the betting markets, the bookies going 11/1 that he opts to go to Goodison Park although it’s far from clear just how the Toffees could afford the massive sums involved. Perhaps the most likely scenario will see Bale watch from the sidelines at the Bernabeu and spend his spare time playing golf. After all, Real Madrid need to pay him while he’s under contract. Nice work if you can get it!
