Fulham’s hugely disappointing defeat to Birmingham City in their final outing of the regular season was enough to deny them a place in the automatic promotion places, however they have nevertheless enjoyed some excellent form since Christmas and they have to be the best bet to win the Championship play-off on May 26th. The play-offs can certainly be a lottery and the Cottagers made life pretty hard for themselves when losing the first leg of their semi-final tie with Derby County, however they fought their way back in front of their home fans and it would appear that the ‘right’ two clubs have made it to the final with Fulham and Aston Villa finishing the regular season in third and fourth position respectively.
Fulham dropped out of the Premier League in 2014 during the controversial Felix Magath reign and it has taken them a while to find their feet again under Shahid Khan, however with excellent manager Slavisa Jokanovic at the helm the fans are expecting great things and this could occur in ten days’ time with the bookmakers offering free bets and price boosts on the Championship play-off final.
The Cottagers will have a tough time on their hands at Wembley Stadium given that opponents Aston Villa have no shortage of top-quality players in their ranks and a manager who has enjoyed four promotions from the Championship in the past, two with Birmingham City and two with Hull City. Nevertheless Fulham showed plenty of spirit and fight when overturning the 1-0 deficit in the semi-final and they are being backed to once again show why they have been the best side in the second-tier since Christmas by claiming the spoils at Wembley on May 26th and lifting themselves back into the Premier League, William Hill Bookies going 5/4 on Fulham to win.
