Falkirk have been propping up the rest of the Scottish Championship for much of the season and while they grabbed themselves a lifeline when beating Inverness Caledonian Thistle to the tune of 3-2 in the Highlands last weekend, it’s hard to escape the conclusion that they will be plying their trade in League One next season. The Bairns have been utterly dreadful this term and while they have at least managed to haul themselves off the foot of the Championship table (Patrick Thistle now sitting bottom of the pile), there is no cause for celebration at the moment.
Falkirk have a chance to make it two wins on the bounce when they lock horns this weekend with an Alloa Athletic side against which they sit level in the league table and we fancy the home side’s chances given that they beat the Wasps in the last meeting between the sides at Recreation Park in late September, the bookmakers giving away free bets on Falkirk v Alloa Athletic.
Alloa Athletic came close to holding promotion-contenders Ross County to a goal-less draw on Saturday afternoon, the Highlanders waiting until stoppage-time to break the deadlock with the only goal of the game. This disappointing defeat came on the back of a convincing 3-0 win over Brechin City in the third round of the Scottish Cup and confidence will be high in the visiting camp that they can avenge their defeat to Falkirk by heading home with the points in the bag.
Nevertheless we don’t really fancy the chances of either side helping their cause this weekend. Both Falkirk and Alloa have been pretty woeful this season and while the Bairns have been grinding out some decent results on their travels, this match has ‘bore-draw’ written all over it with BetVictor Bookmakers going 5/2 that the spoils are shared at the Falkirk Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
