A final like no other
This will be an FA Cup Final like no other, the vast Wembley stands devoid of fans for the meeting between city rivals Arsenal and Chelsea. For those who are counting, this will be the 139th playing of the final and while the stadium will be largely empty, we’re expecting plenty of thrills and spills on the pitch.
Arsenal have lifted the trophy more than any other side with 13 wins in the final, while arch-rivals Chelsea are third with eight wins to their name.
When does it take place?
Traditionally played in May, the Covid-19 pandemic has played havoc with all football competitions around the globe and as a result, the rescheduled FA Cup Final had to be pushed back to 1st August with a kick-off time of 5.30pm. This new slot in the calendar will (hopefully) be just for a single year.
Where can you watch the FA Cup Final?
With no tickets being released for the 2020 FA Cup Final, the only place to watch it is on television. The game will be broadcast live on BBC One, BBC iPlayer, BT Sport 1, BT Sport Ultimate, BT Sport Extra 1.
Arsenal will be without the services of Shkodran Mustafi for this clash, the defender struggling with a hamstring injury. The 28-year-old received the injury in the latter part of the 2-0 win over Manchester City in last week’s semi-final at this venue. The German has been on the receiving end of criticism for his somewhat inconsistent performances for the Gunners since his arrival from Spanish side Valencia four years ago. Nevertheless he has enjoyed something of a renaissance under Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta with starts in all-but-three of the Gunners’ last fifteen outings in the Premier League.
Who do we think will win?
Both Arsenal and Chelsea head into the FA Cup Final on the back of wins in the Premier League and they both have excellent records in the final of this competition. We expect things to be very tight, however Chelsea are favourites and for a very good reason. The Blues have enjoyed some excellent form since their return from the break and they have secured for themselves Champions League football for next season. Arsenal have also impressed in the latter stages of the campaign but Frank Lampard’s men are a step above right now and we envisage them edging their way to success on Saturday evening.
