Mid-table

With only a handful of games left to play before the season draws to a conclusion, Everton are resigned to finishing in a mid-table position. The Toffees are some distance away from the threat of relegation while a European berth realistically isn’t on the cards. Indeed while the arrival of Carlo Ancelotti has heralded a clear improvement in the side, any fruits which may be borne from this will likely come to the fore next term.

Mixed-bag

Following their return from the enforced break, Everton have been a bit of a mixed bag with a goal-less draw with Liverpool followed by wins over Norwich City and Leicester City. Their most recent outing ended in defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane although their solid home form should give them the edge tonight when Southampton come to town.

Home form

The Toffees have tasted just a single league defeat at Goodison Park since September – ironically against rock-bottom side Norwich City – and as such we don’t envisage this excellent home form coming to an end this evening.

Fortress Goodison

Southampton will still be brimming following their surprise 1-0 win over Manchester City last weekend, this being their third win in four games. The Saints have enjoyed wins over the likes of Norwich City (0-3), Watford (1-3) and Man City (1-0) along the way, however they will be up against it at fortress Goodison tonight and we expect the visitors to come off second best.
