Eric Cantona 3/1 to be Man United’s first Director of Football

Red Devils legend Eric Cantona is one of the favourites to become Manchester United's first Director of Football, however Rachel Riley is also up for grabs at 225/1

There is a clear need for some direction at board room level at Old Trafford and with that in mind, the club are seriously considering appointing a sporting director who would influence all football matters and help ensure that the club’s heritage and history are maintained for the future. Indeed with Sir Bobby Robson and Sir Alex Ferguson in the director’s box at Old Trafford, it would be a somewhat perplexing decision were the board to appoint Eric Cantona in the role although that hasn’t stopped the Frenchman from topping the market recently.

Cantona was initially Evens to be appointed in the position although he has since slipped to 3/1 behind market leader Edwin Van Der San at 5/2 and Monchi at 11/4. This would perhaps suggest that the rumoured interest isn’t all that genuine and that the mere suggestion of the Frenchman returning to Old Trafford has been having fans excited.

Van der San currently holds a similar position at Dutch outfit Ajax while Monchi is Director of Football at AS Roma. Other names in the frame include former Tottenham Hotspur and RB Leipzig head of recruitment Paul Mitchell (7/1), current manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (20/1), Gary Neville (25/1), David Beckham (80/1) and even Rachel Riley (225/1). We’ll be gunning for Riley!

Rachel Riley is available at odds of 225/1  to be the first Director of Football at Old Trafford
