England now 16/1 for UEFA Nations Trophy after opening-day defeat to Spain

The Three Lions have drifted to 16/1 for UEFA Nations League glory following their 2-1 defeat to Spain on Saturday

Prior to England’s opening UEFA Nations League outing at the weekend, confidence was high amongst Gareth Southgate’s side following their decent showing at the 2018 World Cup, however it was disappointment for the Three Lions on Saturday as they lost 2-1 to Spain in front of their home fans.

Statistically the two teams were pretty even with 11 shots apiece, however the Spaniards had the edge in terms of possession with 55%. Nevertheless despite some clear improvements in most areas, England are still some way behind the best on the continent, such as Spain, and this was evident at Wembley on Saturday.

Naturally England boss Gareth Southgate will take a few positives from his side’s performance and a share of the spoils could easily have been the outcome had the referee not judged that Danny Welbeck’s late goal was the result of a foul on Spanish keeper David de Gea.

As such, the Three Lions have now drifted out from 11/1 to 16/1 on them winning the UEFA Nations League. Current favourites to go all the way are Spain and France who sit level at 7/2 apiece with Unibet Bookmakers. Belgium (9/2) and Germany (13/2) are also fancied ahead of the Three Lions with Croatia priced at 16/1.
