Prior to the start of the season, Derby County were being touted as possible contenders for promotion after an interesting summer during which they signed a bunch of Premier League youngsters on loan. Thus far, Frank Lampard’s men have certainly played some attractive football although positive results haven’t been forthcoming and consistency has been lacking at this early stage of the campaign. They have managed four wins from their opening eight Championship outings, however they have suffered some hugely disappointing results along the way, the most notable being against Rotherham United against whom they lost 1-0. They are in for another tough time this weekend when they entertain a Brentford side which have been enjoying some excellent results and it is no surprise to see the Rams out to 2/1 to win on home soil.
During their time in the Championship, Brentford have won many admirers for their style of play and spirited approach. They have managed to sign some apparently mediocre players at little cost and turn them into star performers. Should they continue to maintain their early-season form deeper into the campaign, then they will almost certainly be one of the leading candidates for a play-off place at the very least.
The Bees currently occupy third position in the Championship table and they will doubtless be kicking themselves at their inability to collect a maximum points haul in their midweek meeting with struggling Ipswich Town. Nevertheless the West Londoners have lost just a single game across all competitions this term and they have underlined their title credentials with impressive wins over Sheffield Wednesday and Nottingham Forest. Can they take a step closer to a potential play-off place by bagging all three points in the East Midlands? We certainly think so and while this won’t be an easy ride for the visitors, we’ll be siding with them to edge their way to victory on Saturday afternoon with William Hill Bookmakers going 13/10 on Brentford to win.
