The second day of the Cheltenham Festival – traditional referred to as Ladies’ Day – is dominated by the Queen Mother Champion Chase, this being the second championship race of the festival. All of the world’s greatest two-mile chasers have won this famous race including the likes of Sprinter Sacre, Viking Flagship, Moscow Flyer and Badsworth Boy. We’ve picked an unsurprising choice of runner in this chase – indeed who else could we choose but Altior, at 4/9 a massive odds-on favourite but extremely backable given his history at the festival.
Back Altior in the Champion Chase @ 4/9 with Paddy Power Bookmakers
Altior looked somewhat rusty for mush of the 2018 Champion Chase, however jockey Nico De Boinville took charge early on in proceedings and got to work quickly, the Nicky Henderson-trained horse taking a few furlongs to respond. Nevertheless he did respond and in excellent fashion, streaking clear of Min and claiming his third crown at the Cheltenham Festival.

His subsequent win over Politologue was followed by a workmanlike performance in his victory in the Celebration Chase for the second successive time. Altior was then absent until February 2018 due to a wind problem and while he was fresh for his appearance at Cheltenham, he certainly wasn’t at his best.
Nevertheless Altior proved his class when beating Un De Sceaux in his Tingle Creek win upon his reappearance and we certainly don’t envisage anyone beating him this afternoon.
