The 2019 Cheltenham Festival enters its third day and there can be few grumbles about the quality of the racing on offer so far. We’ve seen some thrilling action from Prestbury Park over the last couple of days and we can confidently expect more of the same this afternoon, the Pertemps Final attracting our attention with standout offering Sire Du Berlais offering plenty in the way of value.
Back Sire Du Berlais to win the 2:10 Pertemps Final @ 9/2 with William Hill Bookmakers
JP McManus came within a stones’ throw of winning last season’s Pertemps Final but we expect him to do better this time around with highly-rated Sire Du Berlais. This Gordon Elliott-trained runner has yet to triumph on these shores but he has shown plenty of promise in his outings thus far and the Pertemps will surely be right up his street.
The French-bred horse finished fourth in last year’s Martin Pipe and clearly relished the Cheltenham hill in that race, a step-up in the Pertemps certain to prove no problem whatsoever.
He has had a bit of a quiet time of things this season but this has been by choice, however he ran an impressive trial at Leopardstown at Christmas and since this Pertemps qualifier he has been saved for the big race.
His potential rivals include First Assignment who looks a pretty interesting contender going by his form with Paisley Park at Haydock Park, however he has seen his weights rise this season and as such, this race looks very much primed for Sire Du Berlais to send the green and gold first past the finishing line.
