Many names were bandied about when the Gunners were on the hunt for a new manager to replace Arsene Wenger, the likes of Massimiliano Allegri, Mikel Arteta and Luis Enrique linked with the then-vacant post, however the Arsenal board surprisingly appointed Emery as boss and he will have plenty of opportunities to see his new charges in action with five pre-seaosn friendlies on the horizon, starting with a trip to Boreham Wood’s Meadow Park on Saturday.
Arsenal face a tricky start to the 2018/19 Premier League campaign with Manchester City and Chelsea their opponents in their opening two outings. They will lock horns with Atletico Madrid, PSG, Chelsea and Sevillain their pre-season preparations, although this weekend’s meeting with Boreham Wood should prove to be an altogether more straightforward affair.
Several Gunners players have been involved in the 2018 World Cup and these will clearly be absent for this clash, however Emery still has plenty of strong players to call upon and there is little likelihood that Arsenal’s pre-season campaign will get off to a shaky start.
Boreham Wood finished fourth in the National League at the end of 2017/18 and this earned for them a place in the play-offs where they beat Fylde and Sutton United before losing to Tranmere Rovers in the final at Wembley. Luke Gerrard’s men lost 2-1 to Championship outfit Brentford last week and there is little chance that they will bounce back with a win on Saturday, however the very nature of friendlies suggests that the hosts will get onto the scoresheet and we’ll be siding with an Arsenal win and both teams to score this weekend.
No odds are available on this match although you can enjoy some great free bets from the bookmakers on most pre-season friendlies.
