Birmingham City as low as 8/1 for relegation following points deduction

Birmingham City are set to be handed a nine-point deduction which will send them spiralling down the Championship table

It has been reported that Championship side Birmingham City will be hit with a nine-point deduction as a result of breaching profitability and sustainability rules set up by the Football League. The sanction would send Garry Monk’s men spiralling down the league table from 13th to 18th with just five points separating them from the drop zone. Indeed given that the Blues have failed to collect a single point or score a goal in their last four Championship outings, the omens certainly aren’t good for the West Midlands side and the bookmakers have reacted by shortening their relegation odds, BetVictor slashing their price to just 8/1 that they drop down to League One at the end of the campaign.

Indeed Birmingham were 66/1 for relegation earlier this month although their price has substantially shortened thanks to their dreadful recent form and after many years of mismanagement this points deduction will be a very bitter pill to swallow for the fans. Indeed it appeared that Garry Monk had brought some stability back to the club but these latest developments threaten to completely undo all the good work that he has put in.

Three sides remain priced at odds-on with BetVictor to drop down from the Championship at the end of the season, namely Ipswich Town (1/1000), Bolton Wanderers (1/250) and Rotherham United (4/6).
