Any hopes which Cardiff City harboured regarding staying in the Premier League at the end of the season were dashed last weekend when they lost 3-0 to fellow strugglers Newcastle United, this hugely disappointing result coming on the back of an equally poor goal-less draw at home to Huddersfield Town. Clearly this pales into insignificance when compared with the death of £15million new signing Emiliano Sala who went missing whilst on a flight from Nantes to Cardiff last week, the player presumed dead in what looks to have been a crash into the English Channel.
Naturally the mood at the club is pretty sombre right now and it was perhaps fortunate that the South Wales side were already out of the FA Cup and had no part to play in the weekend line-up with emotions certain to have been raw.
Harsh as it sounds, life has to go on however and the Bluebirds head to the Emirates Stadium in the hope of lifting themselves away from the relegation zone and lifting spirits somewhat. There is a possibility that the Cardiff City players may well be galvanised following the death of Sala, however given the gulf in class between these two sides the best that Cardiff can realistically hope for is a defeat by a not-too-embarrassing margin.

Indeed Arsenal should have little problems overcoming whatever Cardiff can throw at them on Tuesday evening although their susceptibility on home turf was emphasised when losing 3-1 to arch-rivals Manchester United in the FA Cup on Friday evening. Nevertheless the visiting Bluebirds are hardly going to provide the same level of opposition and a comfortable win for the Gunners looks very much the order of the day, BetVictor Bookmakers going 6/5 on Arsenal to win-to-nil.
