It would be nice to state that things were hotting up in the Scottish Premiership although unfortunately that certainly isn’t the case. A quick glance at the league table would confirm what we knew all along – that Celtic would dominate proceedings with Aberdeen remaining as ‘best of the rest’. Indeed replace Hibernian with St Johnstone and the top-five in the current Premiership table is exactly the same as it was at the close of 2016/17.
Celtic are going to win the title, that’s for certain. Aberdeen will more than likely clinch second place given that they are enjoying some excellent form at the moment and enjoy a six-point lead over a less-than-impressive Rangers. The Light Blues will probably content themselves with third place although in that regard they are only two points clear of Hibernian following their home defeat to the Leith men on Saturday afternoon.
In the bottom half of the league table things are pretty tight with just six points separating sixth-placed Kilarnock from second-bottom outfit Hamilton Academical. Both Motherwell and St Johnstone sit amongst this group and both will be desperate to collect three invaluable points and climb further from the danger zone when they lock horns at Fir Park on Tuesday evening.
These two sides have been utterly unimpressive this season with the Steelmen managing just two points from their last three outings and Saints picking up just a single point from a possible twelve. Indeed we’re not expecting awe-inspiring stuff in South Lanarkshire on Tuesday as these sides fight out what is likely to be a low-scoring affair. In all honesty there is little to choose between the sides and on this occasion we’ll be siding with the spoils to be shared in what we believe will be a low-scoring bore-draw.
