Jockey Henry Brooke feeling confident about his ride in Saturday’s big race at Newbury.
Here at FreeBetting.co.uk, we have teamed up with leading jockey Henry Brooke who has kindly agreed to give us his thoughts on all things racing every week.
Henry rides Irish Roe in the Betfair Hurdle at Newbury on Saturday, with the jockey feeling that the filly is “off a favourable mark” at 10-12 and she could go off favourite for the 3.35.
“She’s a very consistent sort,” Henry told us on Friday afternoon when we caught up with him.
“She would prefer better ground but she’ll still perform on soft and we’re hopeful of a big run.
“She ran really well at Doncaster when finishing second and won twice in December at the same track, with the horse in the frame in her last six races.”
There are twenty-four horses likely to line up in a race which is worth nearly £90,000 to the winner, with Brooke identifying a couple of lively dangers at a big price.
“Obviously Jenkins has to be respected,” Henry told FreeBetting.co.uk, “although he’s top weight and that extra load could be difficult on sticky ground. Project Bluebook and Nietzche are other horses that could go well at big odds.”
We also looked at some of the other races at Newbury on Saturday, with Cloudy Dream lining up in the 2.25 against two other horses.
“Obviously I’d love to see the horse win due to Malcolm Jefferson’s recent passing,” Henry told us. “It would be fantastic for the family if that obliged.”
Altior will also be making a seasonal appearance in the 3.00 at Newbury, with last year’s Queen Mother Champion Chase favourite lining up against Politologue and Valdez in what is likely to be a two-horse race.
“It would be great to see Altior win,” Brooke admitted. “He’s been a sensational horse this past two seasons and the racing world want to see the best runners line up at Cheltenham.”
When asked about horses to watch at Cheltenham next month, Henry told us that he’s been impressed by Apples Shakira which is most likely to run in the Mares Novices Hurdle.
We wish Henry best of luck when riding Irish Roe tomorrow, he’ll be wearing the FreeBetting.co.uk logo and hopefully be passing the winning line first.
