Accrington Stanley’s 2016/17 campaign was unimpressive with the side finishing the season in the bottom half of the League Two table, however under the guidance of boss John Coleman they are aiming for bigger things this term and thus far they are succeeding with Stanley currently sitting fifth in the league table with just two points separating them from the automatic promotion places. They also enjoy a game-in-hand over the sides above them in the division, therefore a win on Tuesday evening could propel them into the top three. The question is, can they collect all three points when Swindon Town visit the Crown Ground this week?
Stanley have been enjoying some excellent form in recent weeks with five wins in their last six outings. Their sole defeat was a narrow 2-1 loss at Crawley Town last month although they can bounce back from that disappointment by easing past Stevenage to the tune of 3-2 in their last game. Indeed Coleman’s men have impressed in front of their home fans with just two defeats in their last ten home matches. The evidence suggests that they will continue in a similar fashion on Tuesday evening although it won’t be all plain sailing against a Swindon Town side which are a tough nut to crack.
The visiting Robins dropped down from League One at the end of last season and they will clearly be looking at making a swift return back up to the third tier as soon as possible. As things stand they sit seventh in the league table with just one point separating them from Accrington Stanley and they will provide the hosts with tough opposition given that they have lost just one of their last seven league games. Nevertheless Bury have been solid in front of their home supporters and we believe that they will edge what will likely prove to be a closely-fought encounter, although the evidence suggests that the visitors will grab themselves a consolation goal for their troubles.
